About Funk the System

Hi. My name is Jon. I'm a single dad out of Hayward, CA and creator/owner of Funk the System Shirts/Apparel. Down below I have more information about the company, my policies on transparent pricing, and the differences in garment costs and how it affects the prices you pay. I hope you read them so that you can understand why things here are priced the way they are.

Funk the System

Funk The System started as an idea during the No Kings protests. I noticed that there were a lot of signs, but not a lot of T-shirts. So I decided to create some. I ended up talking with with my kids and some friends and we came up with the Nazi Punching Club, because...I mean what else should you do to a Nazi or a Fascist, but punch them in their stupid, fascist, nazi face? The answer is do that after you join the Nazi Punching Club and get a cool shirt for a great price!

From there I realized that I had fun designing shirts. Some are inspired from Pop-Culture, some from the best damn USL Soccer Team the Oakland Roots, and some are literally just shirts with pictures of food on them, but the heart of Funk The System is The Nazi Punching Club and The Lower Class.

25% of all of our profits will go to the Hayward Unified School District Performing Arts budget. Our kids deserve exposure to music, art, and theater.

I have a lot of information about my pricing and store below, but if you have any other questions I'm always available by:

No Bullshi*t

I am 100% transparent about my pricing and how I create my merch. I want to be successful, but this is a family business for my kids and I.

1) I do use AI, but only for things like applying filters, smoothing, and color correction as I am still learning Photoshop and Gimp. Eventually I will 100% do away with it as I practice more and more.

2) Currently I am using a drop-shipping model which means everything is made to order and takes about 2-4 days longer than they would if I had product in hand. If the brand takes off then I'll definitely change that because I can just pass more savings on to all of you.

3) I am transparent about my prices. I decided that if I am trying to make ends meet for my family then who am I to jack prices way up for others. So I set a flat amount of profit on each item type. It doesn't matter if a t-shirt costs $8 to produce, or $20, the price will reflect that I make $5 per shirt. Any higher cost is the cost from the manufacturer. You can see the full list below:

  • 3$ per Poster
  • 5$ per Tote Bag
  • 8$ per T-shirt
  • 12$ per Hoodie
  • 15$ per Jacket
  • 20$ per Limited Run Jacket

So the cost for a T-shirt comes out as follows:
Manufacturer Cost + $8 to pay for design and business expenses. Each month %25 gets donated for the Hayward Unified School District Arts program. Which works out to 2$ per shirt, $1.25 per bag, $3 per Hoodie, $3.5ish per Jacket, $5 per limited edition Jacket.
